A fresh spell of monsoon rain is expected to affect several parts of Pakistan over the coming days. According to the latest weather forecast, a low-pressure area has developed over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining regions. As a result, monsoon currents are strengthening across southern and central Pakistan.
The weather system is likely to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy downpours in multiple provinces. Therefore, authorities have advised citizens, travelers, and farmers to remain cautious during the forecast period.
Low-Pressure System Strengthens Monsoon Activity
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that the low-pressure area over southwest Rajasthan is driving stronger monsoon currents into the country.
Consequently, several regions may experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds between July 24 and July 28, although weather conditions will vary from province to province.
Sindh to Receive Widespread Rainfall
Sindh is expected to witness rain and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls in several districts.
The forecast includes Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, and Thatta.
These weather conditions are expected from July 24 (evening and night) until July 27, with occasional breaks.
Meanwhile, Karachi is likely to remain mostly clear. However, rain and thunderstorms remain possible on July 25 and 26.
Rain Forecast for Punjab and Islamabad
Several districts in Punjab may receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated heavy showers.
The affected districts include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Khanewal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Khanpur.
Moreover, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, and Chiniot are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms from July 24 to July 26.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Also Under Rain Forecast
Rain and thunderstorms are also expected across many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The forecast covers Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Waziristan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, and Hangu through July 27.
Similarly, isolated rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur in Azad Kashmir until July 28.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar between July 24 and July 26.
Balochistan to Experience Rain and Heavy Showers
Northern and northeastern districts of Balochistan are also likely to receive rain during the forecast period.
The expected areas include Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Kohlu, Sibi, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Jaffarabad, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, Awaran, and Khuzdar.
Furthermore, isolated heavy rainfall may occur in some of these districts through July 27.
Urban Flooding Risk in Several Cities
The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in several cities.
The areas facing higher flood risk include Gujranwala and Lahore on July 24 and 25.
Additionally, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sialkot, Multan, and Faisalabad may also experience urban flooding between July 24 and July 26.
Authorities Issue Safety Advisory
The weather department has advised the public to remain alert throughout the forecast period.
Strong winds and lightning may damage weak structures, including solar panels, electric poles, and billboards.
Moreover, tourists and travelers should exercise extra caution while planning journeys in affected regions.
Farmers have also been advised to plan agricultural activities according to the forecast. In addition, they should ensure proper care of livestock during the expected spell of rain and thunderstorms.
