The Sindh High Court (SHC) has indefinitely adjourned appeals challenging the acquittal of Anmol alias Pinky in three drug cases. A division bench rejected the prosecution’s request for an urgent hearing of the appeals filed by the Prosecutor General Sindh.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the prosecution requested additional time to submit police files related to the cases. The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing without setting a new date.
Prosecution Challenges Anmol Pinky’s Acquittal
The prosecution argued that the acquittal of Anmol Pinky’s co-accused did not automatically clear her of the allegations.
It also maintained that delays in the proceedings resulted from the accused allegedly remaining absconding.
The prosecution further told the court that other drug-related cases had also been registered against Anmol Pinky at different police stations.
It urged the SHC to overturn the trial court’s decision and restore the proceedings against her in the three Gizri cases.
Karachi Court Acquitted Anmol Pinky in August
An Additional District and Sessions Court (South) acquitted Anmol Pinky in the three cases in August.
The cases were registered at Gizri Police Station in 2020, 2021 and 2022. According to the defence, Anmol had been declared a fugitive in all three matters.
Her lawyer argued that Anmol had been nominated based on statements allegedly given by co-accused persons.
The defence also pointed out that two co-accused, Ali and Fahmida, had already been acquitted in 2024.
According to the defence, the prosecution could not establish a case against Anmol after the acquittal of those co-accused.
The trial court subsequently observed that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence and acquitted her in all three cases.
SHC Now to Examine Prosecution’s Appeals
The latest proceedings mean the prosecution’s challenge to the acquittal remains pending before the SHC. The prosecution must now provide the requested police files before the appeals can proceed.
Until the appeals are decided, the trial court’s acquittal in the three Gizri cases remains in place.
Anmol Pinky continues to face other legal proceedings in Karachi. In August, she was also indicted in a separate case involving death by negligence, while other drug-related proceedings remain pending.
For now, the SHC has not issued a new hearing date for the appeals against her acquittal in the three Gizri cases.
