Senior PML-N leaders Chaudhry Saeed and Mushtaq Minhas were also considered for the AJK presidency during the consultations.
However, the party leadership ultimately chose Dr Najeeb Naqi to contest the presidential election.
Sources said the decision also took into account the political situation in the Poonch Division.
