Fourteen people were injured after an Air India flight encountered severe turbulence during its journey from Phuket to New Delhi. Despite the incident, the aircraft landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The incident involved Air India flight AI2379 on Tuesday. According to initial reports, the aircraft suddenly dropped around 300 feet while cruising.
Officials believe turbulence or an updraft and downdraft caused the sudden altitude change. Consequently, several passengers and cabin crew members suffered injuries onboard.
Medical teams remained on standby after Delhi airport authorities received advance notification. Following the safe landing, all passengers and crew disembarked without further incident.
Passengers And Crew Receive Medical Care
Initial reports suggested one cabin crew member suffered serious injuries. However, airport officials later confirmed that around 10 passengers and four cabin crew members reported injuries.
Medical personnel transferred those affected to the airport’s medical facility for examination and treatment. Meanwhile, authorities continued assessing the condition of the injured.
Air India Confirms Safe Landing
Air India confirmed the turbulence-related incident in an official statement. The airline said the aircraft experienced a brief change in altitude during cruise.
However, the airline stated that there were no serious injuries. Instead, only a small number of passengers and crew required precautionary medical assessment.
Air India also confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and everyone onboard exited without difficulty. Furthermore, the airline said its airport team and medical staff provided immediate assistance to the injured.
