Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Afghanistan’s Kam Air have signed an interline agreement to simplify regional travel through Islamabad.
The agreement will make it easier for passengers travelling from Afghanistan to reach key Middle Eastern destinations. They can now book their complete journey under a single reservation.
Previously, passengers travelling across separate flight segments could need individual tickets. However, the new arrangement brings the connected journey under one booking.
Kabul-Dammam Route to Lead First Phase
The first phase of the agreement will connect Kabul with Dammam through Islamabad. This arrangement will provide Afghan passengers with a streamlined connection for their onward journey.
Passengers travelling from Kabul will also benefit from simplified baggage handling at Islamabad International Airport. Their checked baggage will transfer directly to the connecting PIA flight.
As a result, passengers will not need to collect their luggage during transit. They will also avoid the need to check their baggage again before the onward flight.
Afghan Passengers Can Stay Airside in Islamabad
The agreement introduces another convenience for Afghan passengers travelling to Gulf destinations. They can remain inside the airside transit area at Islamabad International Airport.
Therefore, passengers will not need to complete immigration clearance in Pakistan during their transit. This arrangement can make connecting through Islamabad more convenient.
The new process is designed to reduce unnecessary steps for passengers travelling between Afghanistan and Middle Eastern destinations.
PIA and Kam Air Strengthen Regional Connectivity
The cooperation between PIA and Kam Air establishes a streamlined transit route through Islamabad. It connects Afghanistan with important destinations in the Middle East.
The arrangement also creates a more convenient travel option for passengers using connecting flights. Meanwhile, the first phase will focus on the Kabul-Dammam connection.
PIA underwent privatisation earlier this year, while the new agreement adds another international cooperation arrangement for the airline.
