PTI Chairman Imran Khan suspends Jail Bharo movement

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, announced the suspension of the ‘Jail Bharo’ movement after the Supreme Court made a decision regarding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He made this announcement on his Twitter account.

Additionally, he praised the Supreme Court’s decision on the elections in Punjab and KP for defending the Constitution.

Jail Bharo Movement

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, announced the ‘Jail Bharo’ movement after sedition cases were filed against PTI leaders. He expressed concerns about the country’s worsening economy and stated that the PTI would fill the prisons.

Khan explained that the PTI had two options in response to the sedition cases. They could have gone for a wheel-jam strike and demonstrations, which would have been a democratic way to protest. However, instead of causing destruction, the party would prepare for the ‘Jail Bharo’ movement.

Furthermore, he claimed that his party would not stay silent about the violence inflicted on its members. He added that the PTI had never committed atrocities like those committed by the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government.

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan announced the launch of the movement from Lahore on February 22.

As part of the movement:

The senior leadership of the party, including Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Senator Waleed Iqbal, and former provincial minister Murad Ras, served themselves for arrest.

And then, PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Senator Azam Swati, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, and Jamshaid Cheema courted arrest in Lahore along with scores of PTI workers.
