Commodity prices to decline after release of 4000 stuck up containers at karachi port

Out of 4000 containers stuck at the port for months, about 3,000 containers carried grain and food commodities.

ISLAMABAD: The tax authorities have cleared 4000 stuck up containers at Karachi port on Thursday.

This development will lead to decline in the prices of essential consumer items imported from abroad.

Out of 4000 containers stuck at the port for months, about 3,000 containers carried grain and food commodities.

Wholesale Grocers Association Chairman Abdul Rauf Ibrahim hoped the supply of commodities will become normal in markets next week.

He said that the prices of important consumer items will further decline when the customs authorities release remaining containers stuck up at ports in Karachi.

In the recent weeks, consumers are facing an unprecedented price hike because of non-clearance of containers, devaluation of rupee and increase in petrol, gas, electricity and oil prices.

In Jan this year, headline inflation inflated to 27.6 per cent while food inflation mounted to record high of 45 per cent.
