ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court today took notice of the PTI chairman threats to Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and decided to issue contempt of court notice to Imran Khan.
The IHC took notice of the issue the contempt of court in response to the registrar’s note and after consultations with other judges.
Thus, IHC’s larger bench comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the contempt case against Imran Khan probably from Tuesday (August 23).
The IHC’s decision comes a day after an FIR was registered against PTI chairman Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for threatening the judge and senior police officers at a rally in the federal capital’s F-9 Park. On Monday, the Islamabad High Court approved the transit bail of the PTI leader in this case.
Meanwhile, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon has welcomed IHC’s decision to constitute a larger bench to start proceedings against the contempt of court committed by Imran Khan.
Bhoon condemned the way Imran Khan addressed Additional Sessions Judge Chaudhry and termed his threats an attempt to undermine the dignity and prestige of judiciary.
