New Zealand has scored a significant victory, ousting South Africa from ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 finalย at Eden Gardens on Wednesday. It was a commanding nine-wicket victory over South Africa. Finn Allen produced a breathtaking unbeaten century, while Tim Seifert provided strong support in a chase that left little room for drama.
Dominant Chase Led by Allen and Seifert
With 170 as their target, the Kiwis did show winning intent from the very first over. Allen continued to attack with gusto, clearing the boundaries with ease. Meanwhile, Seifert continued to show the same aggression as his opening partner. The two stitched together a stunning opening partnership of 117 runs in just nine overs. From then on, the onus rested entirely on South Africaโs shoulders.
South Africaโs Fightback Falls Short
South Africa scored 169 runs on the board after the Kiwis decided to bowl. Unfortunately, the South African team faced difficulties in the early overs as Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton got out in the second over.
Marco Jansen and Tristin Stubbs contributed well in the counterattack as they scored 73 runs in the sixth wicket partnership. Although Marco Jansen was not out on 55, the Kiwi bowlers did not allow the South African team to get ahead. Allenโs incredible performance overshadowed the good performance of the South African team.
