LOS ANGELES โย Timothy Very, the longtime drummer for Atlanta-based indie rock band Manchester Orchestra, has died at age 42, his bandmates confirmed Saturday.
Very’s cause of death has not been reported.
Bandmates Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, and Andy Prince announced the news in a social media post, describing their grief as “absolute disbelief.”
“We lost our brother and the most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life,” the band wrote. They remembered Very’s “infectious laugh” and his ability to make “strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.”
Very joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, replacing Jeremiah Edmond during the recording of the band’s third studio album,ย Simple Math. The album, released via Favorite Gentlemen, debuted in the top 10 onย Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts.
He remained with the band for 15 years, performing on every album since his debut. His last live performance with Manchester Orchestra was a hometown show in Atlanta in November 2025.
Born in Pensacola, Florida, Very began touring as a drummer at a young age. Before joining Manchester Orchestra, he played with San Diego-based band Waking Ashland. He was childhood friends with bassist Andy Prince, making his eventual place in the band a natural fit.
Beyond his work with Manchester Orchestra, Very recently launched a podcast calledย Timmy’s Timeline, interviewing music industry veterans. He once reflected on his career, saying, “I didn’t make very much money for years and sometimes the bills got sketchy but I stayed hungry to improve and it paid off.”
The band has not commented on whether Very’s death will affect their scheduled tour dates beginning in March.
