Free Wi-Fi
Residents of Punjab have a new reason to celebrate as the provincial government has expanded its free Wi-Fi services to Rahim Yar Khan. Launched on Monday, this initiative forms part of a larger digital connectivity drive aimed at improving internet access across the province.
The expansion ensures that locals in Rahim Yar Khan can now enjoy complimentary internet connectivity at several key public locations.
Among the areas covered are prominent spots such as Adda Khanpur, City Pull, School Bazaar, the railway station, Jail Chowk, and Hospital Chowk. The serviceโs coverage extends from Dari Sangi all the way to Chak No 72-PN, providing a wide network that benefits students, residents, and visitors alike.
This development is expected to enhance digital access in the city, allowing more people to stay connected for education, communication, and daily needs.
This rollout is part of a broader campaign by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to increase free public Wi-Fi availability across the province. To date, more than 200 free Wi-Fi points are already operational in Lahore alone, and there are a total of 270 hotspots spread across 11 districts of Punjab.
Besides Rahim Yar Khan, the PSCA has successfully introduced these services in cities like Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree.
The impact of the free Wi-Fi initiative has been significant, with more than 13 million people using the service so far. Collectively, users have consumed over 265 terabytes of data.
While the service aims to make everyday internet access easier and more affordable for the general public, it is important to note that it is not intended for emergency calls, video streaming, or heavy entertainment use.
This important digital upgrade is part of the Chief Ministerโs vision to transform Punjab into a fully connected and technologically advanced province.
The governmentโs commitment to expanding internet accessibility reflects its efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote socio-economic development throughout the region. With such initiatives, Punjab moves closer to becoming a smart and digitally inclusive society, benefiting citizens across all walks of life.
