Military command says action postponed despite readiness
Iranโs Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters has announced that it has delayed a planned military response to a US naval operation targeting the Iranian container vessel Touska in the Sea of Oman. In a statement released Monday, officials said armed forces had prepared for a decisive response following what they described as aggression by US forces.
However, the command clarified that the presence of crew membersโ families onboard the vessel prompted a delay. Consequently, authorities chose to prioritize their safety, noting that any immediate action could have placed lives at risk. The statement emphasized that protecting civilians remained a key consideration in operational decisions.
US operation and rising tensions escalate standoff
Meanwhile, the United States confirmed that its forces intercepted the Touska while it was sailing from China toward Bandar Abbas. United States Central Command stated that the vessel ignored repeated warnings over a six-hour period. Subsequently, US forces disabled the ship and took control of it.
In addition, US President Donald Trump said the vessel was stopped after damage was inflicted on its engine room. Following the incident, Iranian forces reportedly launched drone activity targeting US naval assets in the region.
Furthermore, tensions continue to rise around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route. As a result, concerns over maritime security and energy supply disruptions have intensified.
Officials stated that Iran will proceed with its response once the safety of all civilians onboard is ensured.
