Pakistan and Bahrain have agreed to step up economic cooperation and work toward increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion within three years.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the target while addressing the third session of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission in Islamabad on Thursday. Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani co-chaired the meeting.
Pakistan, Bahrain Seek Stronger Trade Ties
Dar said both countries would need sustained efforts to double their commercial traffic and reach the agreed target.
He described the joint working groups’ discussions as useful and result-oriented. He also stressed the importance of turning government-level engagement into stronger business-to-business cooperation.
The trade target builds on an agreement reached during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s 2025 visit to Bahrain. At that time, both sides agreed to increase annual bilateral trade to $1 billion.
Dar, Bahrain FM Discuss Economic Cooperation
Before the commission meeting, Dar held talks with Al Zayani at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two ministers reviewed Pakistan-Bahrain relations and welcomed the positive momentum in high-level engagement. They also explored ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment and broader economic ties.
In addition, the ministers exchanged views on regional and international developments. They agreed that dialogue and diplomacy remain important tools for addressing disputes and regional challenges.
Wider Cooperation on Agenda
The Joint Ministerial Commission also covers defence, security, labour, manpower and cultural exchanges. Both countries aim to build on their longstanding relationship through stronger economic and institutional cooperation.
The latest discussions could provide fresh momentum toward the $1 billion trade goal as Islamabad and Manama seek deeper commercial ties.
