Seven-Seat N90 Max Leads Xiaomi’s New SUV Lineup
Xiaomi has officially introduced its Sky Nomad SUV series, marking its first entry into the extended-range electric vehicle market.
The new family begins with two models. These are the seven-seat Sky Nomad N90 Max and the five-seat N70 Max.
Both vehicles are now available for pre-order in China. Customers can reserve either model by paying a refundable deposit of RMB 1,000.
The N90 Max carries a pre-sale price of RMB 299,900. The N70 Max has been priced at RMB 259,900.
Xiaomi plans to officially launch both models in September. More affordable standard and Pro variants are expected to follow later.
The N90 Max is Xiaomi’s new flagship family SUV. It measures 5,285mm in length, 1,998mm in width and 1,825mm in height.
Its wheelbase stretches to 3,080mm, creating enough cabin space for a three-row, seven-seat arrangement.
The seats are configured in a 2+2+3 layout. Six sliding rails allow the second and third rows to move across a large section of the cabin.
The longest rail measures 1,938mm. This allows owners to adjust the interior for passengers, luggage or recreational use.
The front seats can also rotate when the vehicle is parked. Up to four zero-gravity seats are available, depending on the configuration.
Other cabin features include a nine-litre compressor refrigerator, a 25-speaker audio system and up to 1,831 litres of cargo space.
A special N90 Max Camping Edition has also appeared in Chinese regulatory filings.
It includes a lifting roof, rooftop sleeping platform, side storage compartments and an interface for attaching a tent. The raised roof can only be used while the vehicle is parked away from public roads.
Dual Motors Deliver 416 Horsepower and Long Electric Range
Both Max models use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing a combined 310kW, equivalent to approximately 416 horsepower.
The front motor produces up to 210kW. The rear unit adds another 100kW.
Xiaomi says the N90 Max can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. Its maximum speed is listed at 190km/h.
The N90 Max uses a 76kWh ternary lithium battery. It offers a claimed electric-only range of 464 kilometres under China’s CLTC testing cycle.
When the battery and fuel tank are both full, the SUV has a claimed combined range of 1,705 kilometres.
The vehicle also uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine as a range extender.
The engine does not directly power the wheels. It operates as a generator to produce electricity when the battery level falls.
Xiaomi says the N90 Max can add up to 285 kilometres of driving range through 15 minutes of fast charging. Charging from 20 percent to 80 percent reportedly takes approximately 18 minutes.
The smaller N70 Max offers two battery choices.
Buyers can select a 52kWh lithium iron phosphate battery or a larger 76kWh ternary lithium pack.
With the larger battery, the N70 Max provides a claimed electric range of up to 505 kilometres under the CLTC cycle.
It uses the same 310kW dual-motor powertrain as the larger N90 Max.
The N70 measures 4,960mm in length and has a 2,950mm wheelbase. It is designed as a spacious five-seat SUV rather than a three-row family vehicle.
Both models are based on Xiaomi’s new Kunlun architecture.
The company began developing the platform in early 2023. The system combines the vehicle platform, extended-range powertrain and safety technologies.
Xiaomi has also introduced its Dragon Armour battery system for the Sky Nomad range.
The company says high-strength steel and aluminium account for more than 90 percent of the N90 Max body structure.
The flagship SUV can reportedly travel through water up to 750mm deep. It uses two sensors to monitor water depth.
Xiaomi also claims the vehicle can briefly remain afloat during an emergency. However, this function is intended only as an escape feature and not for normal use.
Advanced Driver Assistance and Global Expansion Plans
The Sky Nomad models feature extensive computing and driver-assistance hardware.
They use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform for the digital cockpit.
An Nvidia Drive Thor processor provides up to 700 trillion operations per second for assisted-driving functions.
Xiaomi’s Hyper Autonomous Driving system comes as standard across the range.
Despite its name, the system remains a driver-assistance package. Drivers must continue monitoring the road and remain responsible for the vehicle.
The N90 Max also receives LiDAR equipment, including an additional rear-facing solid-state sensor.
Xiaomi is positioning the Sky Nomad range against premium Chinese family SUVs from Li Auto and Huawei-backed Aito.
The N90 Max is also priced below the six-seat Tesla Model Y L in China, which was listed at RMB 339,000 when Xiaomi opened pre-orders.
The launch expands Xiaomi’s vehicle business beyond its battery-electric SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV.
It also arrives as the company attempts to increase annual vehicle deliveries in China’s highly competitive automotive market.
Xiaomi plans to publicly display the N90 at the Chengdu Auto Show before beginning deliveries in September.
No launch has been confirmed for Pakistan.
Xiaomi’s first major overseas vehicle expansion is expected to focus on Europe in 2027. This means Pakistani buyers are unlikely to receive the Sky Nomad through official channels in the immediate future.
However, the extended-range system could suit countries with limited public charging infrastructure.
Owners could complete most daily journeys using battery power while retaining the petrol generator for longer motorway travel.
The Sky Nomad series shows how Xiaomi intends to combine electric driving, long-distance capability and flexible family accommodation in one vehicle.
Its success will depend on real-world efficiency, production capacity and whether the company can meet strong demand after deliveries begin.
