Eleven police officials, including a Station House Officer (SHO), have been booked after a raid was mistakenly carried out at the Lahore residence of Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan.
According to Punjab Police, the raiding team had intended to target a neighbouring house. However, the officials mistakenly entered the attorney general’s residence during the operation.
The incident has led to legal action against the officers involved. Furthermore, the case has raised questions about operational procedures followed during police raids.
FIR Says Police Officials Exceeded Their Authority
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the police officials exceeded their authority while conducting the operation.
The FIR states that the SHO of Sarwar Road Police Station and 11 police personnel have been charge-sheeted in connection with the incident.
Authorities launched legal proceedings after determining that the raid had been carried out at the wrong residence.
AGP’s Driver Details What Happened During the Raid
The complaint was lodged by the attorney general’s driver, Irfan, who described the events that unfolded during the operation.
According to Irfan, the SHO climbed over the main gate before entering the house along with other police personnel.
He said only household staff members were present inside the residence when the raid took place.
Irfan also stated that AGP Mansoor Usman Awan was attending a meeting at the time. He reached home only after receiving information about the incident.
CCTV System Allegedly Removed During Operation
The complainant further alleged that police officials removed the property’s CCTV camera system during the raid.
According to Irfan, the digital video recorder (DVR) was later returned. However, he claimed that the recorded footage had been deleted before it was handed back.
In addition, he alleged that flower pots placed outside the residence were damaged during the operation.
These allegations have been included in the case registered against the police officials.
SHO Secures Interim Bail
Meanwhile, the SHO of Sarwar Road Police Station has obtained interim bail from a court following the registration of the case.
The legal proceedings will now continue under the relevant provisions of the law.
The incident occurred after police reportedly acted on information concerning a neighbouring property. However, the operation resulted in the mistaken entry into the residence of Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.
The case remains under legal process as authorities proceed with action against the police officials named in the FIR.
