Family among casualties as authorities assess incident in Hassan Khel area
A woman was killed and six members of the same family were injured in a suspected drone strike late Tuesday night in the Pastawana area of Hassan Khel subdivision on the outskirts of Peshawar, according to local sources.
Emergency responders shifted all seven victims to hospital shortly after the incident. Initially, officials reported that one woman had sustained critical injuries while the remaining family members were receiving treatment for wounds of varying severity.
However, local residents later confirmed that the injured woman succumbed to her injuries. An elder from Hassan Khel identified the deceased as the daughter-in-law of Sher Mast, one of the injured survivors.
Meanwhile, Sher Mast and his 15-year-old son remained under medical treatment at Lady Reading Hospital on Wednesday. Doctors discharged the other injured family members after providing necessary medical care.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident or identify those responsible for the suspected strike. Investigations are expected to determine the nature of the attack and assess the damage caused.
Earlier suspected drone incident raised security concerns
The latest incident comes months after another suspected drone strike was reported in the Hassan Khel subdivision. In April, a suspected drone attack caused minor damage to a mosque in the area, although authorities reported no casualties.
According to local sources, that incident occurred in the Chandoka area along the border between Peshawar and Kohat, raising fresh concerns about security in the region.
Residents have repeatedly called for greater protection and a thorough investigation into such incidents, citing fears over civilian safety. The latest strike has once again intensified concerns among local communities living near the affected areas.
Officials are expected to examine evidence collected from the site before determining the cause of the explosion. Security agencies have not confirmed whether the incident involved a drone or another type of aerial strike, while authorities continue gathering information as part of the ongoing investigation.
