The Punjab School Education Department has approved a teacher rationalization plan for 2,682 government schools outsourced under Phase Three of the province’s education reform program.
The decision aims to adjust teaching staff after the management of these schools shifts under the outsourcing initiative. As a result, teachers working at the affected institutions will be declared surplus in phases once the outsourcing agreements are finalized.
Teacher Rationalization to Begin in Phases
According to the department, the rationalization process will not take place all at once. Instead, officials will implement it in stages as outsourcing agreements are completed.
Furthermore, education authorities have instructed relevant officials to finish the entire rationalization exercise by August 5. The move is expected to streamline staffing arrangements at schools included in the third phase of outsourcing.
The department believes the process will help ensure that teachers are adjusted where they are needed most. At the same time, it will support the transition of school management under the outsourcing framework.
New Transfer Round Expected After Rationalization
Following the completion of the rationalization process, the Punjab School Education Department is expected to open a new transfer round on August 10.
Teachers declared surplus will have the opportunity to apply for transfers. Moreover, they will be allowed to select schools based on their preferences during the transfer process.
Officials said this mechanism will help accommodate affected teachers while maintaining staffing requirements across government schools.

The education department has directed all concerned authorities to complete the surplus adjustment process within the given timeline.
