The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued notices over alleged unauthorised structures at JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence and three seminaries in Islamabad. The action comes amid an ongoing standoff between the government and the opposition party.
The notices require the removal of alleged construction violations, while warning of possible penalties for non-compliance.
CDA Warns of Demolition and Plot Cancellation
The CDA has directed the owner of Fazlur Rehman’s residence to remove unauthorised structures within 15 days. These include constructions in the building’s setback area, guard posts and generators installed on state land.
The notice, dated October 30, came from the authority’s Building Control Section. Officials pasted it outside the property, located at Plot No. 7, Street 83, Sector G-6/4.
Moreover, the notice warns that failure to comply could trigger several measures. These include sealing the building, demolishing unauthorised structures and cancelling the plot’s allotment.
The CDA cited the CDA Ordinance and Islamabad Capital Territory Building Control Regulations, 2020, in its warning.
Three Seminaries Also Receive Notices
The authority has also initiated action against three seminaries reportedly operated by clerics linked to JUI-F. It issued notices on October 29 over alleged construction without approval.
Two seminaries are located in Sector F-8/3, while another stands in Bilal Town near Korang Nullah.
The notices form part of the broader regulatory action involving properties associated with the party. However, the allegations concern construction compliance and do not establish any wrongdoing beyond the cited violations.
JUI-F Reacts to the CDA Action
Maulana Asjad Mahmood criticised the notices, alleging that authorities were targeting an individual. In a post on X, he identified the disputed structures at Fazlur Rehman’s residence.
According to Mahmood, the CDA objected to an additional kitchen in the setback area, a guard cabin and a generator outside the building.
“All the institutions are bent upon victimising an individual,” he said.
Fazlur Rehman’s residence has also hosted political consultations involving government and opposition leaders. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari have previously visited the JUI-F chief.
Previous Notice and Islamabad’s Anti-Encroachment Drive
The latest action is not the first time the residence has faced such objections. During the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government, authorities issued a notice on March 18, 2019.
That earlier notice sought the removal of alleged unauthorised constructions inside and outside the residence.
Meanwhile, the CDA continues its anti-encroachment campaign across Islamabad, targeting encroachments on public and state land. The authority has also pursued cases involving unauthorised construction and other regulatory violations.
In an earlier statement this month, the CDA said it was enforcing applicable laws and building regulations. It also indicated that eligible cases could undergo regularisation or approval under prescribed rules.
