ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has clarified that it cannot hear cases under the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law after recent amendments changed its jurisdiction.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar announced the short order and said the Federal Constitutional Court will now handle NAB appeals and bail petitions.
The ruling introduces a major change in the legal process for accountability cases across Pakistan.
Federal Constitutional Court to Handle NAB Matters
The Supreme Court stated that Sections 32 and 32A of the amended NAB law no longer allow it to hear such cases.
The court said the Federal Constitutional Court will deal with all NAB matters that fall under the updated legal framework.
It also referred to Articles 175A and 175F while explaining the transfer of authority between courts.
The decision means that future appeals and bail requests in NAB cases will move to the Federal Constitutional Court.
Imran Khanโs Bail Petition Moves to New Court
The ruling came after PTI founder Imran Khan challenged a High Court decision in his bail case.
He had approached the Supreme Court after the High Courtโs order. However, the Supreme Court Registrar returned his petition due to objections.
Following the latest decision, the Federal Constitutional Court will now hear Imran Khanโs bail case.
The ruling is expected to affect the handling of several NAB-related appeals and petitions in the country.
