PMA Central President Dr Izhar Ahmed Chaudhry also supported the resignation of Dr Ammar Haider Bhutta, Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Jauharabad.
He described Bhutta’s decision as appropriate and commendable amid an alleged dispute involving the Punjab Health Department.
Why Did Dr Ammar Bhutta Resign?
According to the PMA president, Bhutta faced a threat of an FIR from Punjab Health Secretary Nadia Saqib.
Chaudhry said the situation led the medical superintendent to resign rather than compromise his professional dignity.
“Dr Ammar Bhutta chose to resign rather than compromise his self-respect and professional dignity”.
The PMA president said the association was treating the matter seriously.
He also described the incident as a failure by the Health Department to protect senior doctors working in administrative positions.
PMA Raises Concerns Over Bureaucratic Pressure
The PMA president criticised what he described as an arrogant attitude by the Punjab Health Secretary.
He said such conduct was not appropriate for someone holding a senior bureaucratic position.
According to Chaudhry, Dr Ammar’s resignation reflected his commitment to protecting his dignity and professional standing.
The association has therefore raised broader concerns about the working environment for doctors holding administrative roles.
What Does PMA Want From Punjab CM?
The PMA has urged the Punjab chief minister to take steps to address its concerns.
The association wants government officials to receive proper training in professional conduct.
It also called for measures to prevent officials from using their authority for personal publicity.
The PMA said doctors working in government administrative positions should be able to perform their responsibilities without undue pressure.
PMA Calls for Better Working Environment
The association said senior doctors need an environment that allows them to carry out administrative duties professionally.
It stressed that government officials should maintain appropriate professional conduct while dealing with medical administrators.
At the same time, the PMA has framed the Jauharabad hospital case as part of a wider concern.
The association believes senior doctors should not face unnecessary pressure while performing their official responsibilities.
The PMA has consequently asked the Punjab government to ensure greater protection for doctors serving in administrative positions.
