A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was martyred after unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle in Balochistanโs Barkhan district on Tuesday. The attack also left a police constable injured and triggered an immediate security response in the area.
The incident occurred near the Khana checkpost, where armed assailants ambushed the police vehicle before fleeing the scene. Authorities have launched a search operation to track down those responsible.
Senior Police Officer Loses Life
Police confirmed that the martyred officer was identified as DSP Murid Bugti. He lost his life after the attackers opened fire on the official vehicle.
Meanwhile, a police constable travelling with the DSP sustained injuries during the attack. Rescue efforts began immediately after the shooting. The injured officer was shifted to a medical facility for treatment.
The condition of the injured constable has not been officially disclosed.
Search Operation Underway
Soon after the attack, police and security forces reached the site and secured the surrounding area. They also launched a search operation to locate the unidentified gunmen who escaped after the assault.
Officials are collecting evidence from the scene as part of the investigation. However, no arrests have been reported so far.
