WhatsApp is introducing a series of new group chat features designed to improve communication and simplify collaboration. The latest update includes an @all mention, more flexible polling options, and a faster way to create separate groups from existing conversations.
The new tools are aimed at making busy group chats more organised and efficient. Moreover, the messaging platform has confirmed that these features will roll out to users worldwide over the coming weeks.
Smarter Polls Offer Greater Flexibility
One of the biggest additions focuses on improving WhatsApp polls. Users can now set a deadline for polls, allowing voting to close automatically once the selected time expires. As a result, groups can avoid late votes and keep decisions organised.
In addition, WhatsApp has introduced an option to hide voter identities. This allows members to vote privately without revealing their selections to others in the group.
The platform has also made polls easier to manage. Users can edit a poll question within 15 minutes of creating it. Consequently, typing mistakes or unclear wording can be corrected without deleting and recreating the poll.
New @all Mention Reaches Every Group Member
WhatsApp has also introduced the long-awaited @all mention feature. Instead of tagging members individually, users can now notify everyone in the group with a single mention.
The feature is particularly useful for urgent announcements, deadline reminders, schedule changes, or important updates that require everyone’s attention.
However, WhatsApp has placed restrictions on larger groups. In conversations with more than 32 members, only group administrators can use the @all tag.
Even if a group chat is muted, the mention can still alert members. Nevertheless, users who prefer fewer notifications can disable @all alerts through the app’s notification settings.
Creating Side Groups Becomes Faster
Another major addition makes it easier to start focused discussions without cluttering the main conversation.
Users can now create a separate group directly from an existing chat with a single tap. Previously, participants had to be added one by one.
The feature is expected to help users organise smaller discussions for specific purposes. For example, members can coordinate surprise events, manage project tasks, or discuss particular topics without interrupting the main group conversation.
Global Rollout Underway
WhatsApp says the new features will become available globally in the coming weeks. Users should update the application to the latest version to access the improvements as they are released.
