Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz Hussain has appealed to senior figures in Pakistan for intervention over the seizure and auction of the company’s assets.
In his detailed appeal, Malik Riaz alleged that Bahria Town properties face forced dispossession and sale at what he described as unusually low prices. He also raised concerns about the impact of these actions on employees, investors, allottees and other stakeholders.
The appeal further highlighted security concerns involving Malik Riaz and his family. It alleged that he received threats and faced surveillance before leaving Pakistan due to concerns for his family’s safety.
Malik Riaz Raises Concerns Over Threats
According to the appeal, Malik Riaz received threatening emails and messages concerning his life and family. The document also alleged that attempts were made to intimidate his wife and children. It said authorities registered an FIR over the alleged threats.
However, the appeal claimed that the FIR was later cancelled. It further stated that the High Court intervened and restored the FIR through a reasoned judgment.
Despite that development, Malik Riaz alleged that no independent investigation has taken place. He also claimed that the person named in the case remains at large.
The appeal called for an impartial investigation into the alleged threats and surveillance.
It also raised allegations concerning other members of his family. According to the document, his children faced circumstances that the family described as alleged abduction, unlawful detention and threats.
Bahria Town Assets Worth Billions Under Focus
The appeal also focused heavily on the financial consequences of actions against Bahria Town.
The company claimed that assets worth approximately Rs238.6 billion have already been auctioned, seized or placed at risk of disposal.
It further alleged that some strategic properties were being offered at distress values. The appeal questioned the transparency of valuations, bidding processes and final transaction amounts.
Bahria Town argued that continued asset disposals could create serious consequences for the company and its stakeholders.
The company said thousands of families have invested their savings in its projects. Meanwhile, employees, contractors, suppliers and businesses also depend on its operations.
Rs372 Billion Development Work Remains Suspended
According to the appeal, development projects worth approximately Rs372 billion are currently suspended.
The affected work reportedly includes infrastructure, utilities and residential development. These projects remain linked to thousands of employees, contractors, investors and allottees.
The company argued that its properties should not be treated simply as corporate assets. Instead, it said these resources are also needed to fulfil outstanding development obligations.
“If these very assets are seized and sold, from where will Bahria Town obtain the financial resources required to complete the outstanding Rs372 billion development works,” the appeal asks.
The document also referred to Bahria Town’s obligations before the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
It argued that the company faces significant financial demands. However, it said meeting those obligations becomes difficult when its main sources of income and liquidity face seizure or disposal.
Malik Riaz Seeks Institutional Settlement
The appeal also highlighted Malik Riaz’s decades-long involvement in construction, urban development, employment generation and welfare initiatives.
He has asked authorities to resolve the outstanding disputes through institutional dialogue rather than continued asset seizures and auctions.
According to the appeal, a mutually acceptable settlement could protect the interests of the state, investors, allottees, creditors and other stakeholders.
The company maintained that it was not seeking immunity from the law. Instead, it called for a process that would allow lawful obligations to be addressed while protecting assets needed for ongoing development commitments.
For now, the appeal places the focus on the wider economic and legal consequences of the dispute. It also seeks intervention to prevent further uncertainty for the many stakeholders connected with Bahria Town’s projects.
