Sony is preparing to expand its Xperia smartphone lineup with a new device later this month. The company has scheduled a new Xperia launch for Tuesday, August 25.
The event will be livestreamed on YouTube and will begin at 11:00 AM Japan time. Sony has not yet revealed the identity of the smartphone.
However, recent leaks suggest the company could introduce the Xperia 10 VIII, also known as the MK8.
Xperia 10 VIII Expected at Sony Event
Sony has kept details about the upcoming smartphone under wraps. The company has not officially confirmed its name or specifications.
Recent reports, however, point toward the Xperia 10 VIII as the likely launch candidate. The device is expected to succeed the Xperia 10 VII, also known as the MK7.
Sony launched the Xperia 10 VII in September last year. If the latest reports prove accurate, its successor will arrive nearly a month earlier than the previous model.
The earlier launch could indicate a change in Sony’s release schedule for the Xperia 10 series. More details should emerge during the upcoming event.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 Could Return
A recent Geekbench listing has revealed a key detail about the expected smartphone. The benchmark entry reportedly lists the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 as its processor.
Interestingly, the same chipset powers the Xperia 10 VII. Therefore, Sony may retain the processor for another generation instead of introducing a newer chip.
The chipset choice could mean that the Xperia 10 VIII will focus on refinements in other areas. However, the leaked benchmark does not reveal the complete hardware package.
Sony Yet to Confirm Specifications
Sony has not officially confirmed the Xperia 10 VIII or its specifications. Therefore, the reported details should be treated as leaks until the company makes an announcement.
The August 25 event should provide clarity about the phone’s name, hardware and features. Sony could also reveal its availability and other launch details during the livestream.
For now, the Xperia 10 VIII remains an expected device rather than a confirmed product. The upcoming Xperia event will reveal whether the leaked information matches Sony’s final announcement.
