Preparations have been completed to repatriate the body of Pakistani student Asid Mirza, who tragically drowned in Germany earlier this month. The 20-year-old student, originally from Karachi, lost his life while bathing in a lake in the German state of Brandenburg. His body is now expected to arrive in Pakistan next week after the completion of all legal and diplomatic procedures.
The Pakistani Embassy in Germany has coordinated closely with German authorities throughout the process. Meanwhile, officials have continued supporting the bereaved family by providing consular assistance and facilitating every stage of the repatriation.
Body Expected to Arrive in Pakistan Next Week
According to diplomatic sources, legal formalities for the transfer of Asid Mirza’s body are in their final stages. Consequently, officials expect his remains to reach Pakistan sometime next week.
The Pakistani Embassy in Berlin has worked with the relevant German authorities to complete all required documentation. As a result, the repatriation process has moved forward without unnecessary delays.
Officials confirmed that the embassy remained in continuous contact with the family to provide assistance throughout the difficult process.
Student Drowned in Brandenburg Lake
Asid Mirza drowned on July 13 while bathing in Lake Würbelinsee in Brandenburg. At the time of the incident, the 20-year-old was pursuing his studies in Berlin.
Following the tragedy, German authorities immediately launched search operations. Their efforts continued until the body was recovered on July 17.
Later, officials completed the formal identification process on July 22. Afterward, funeral prayers for the deceased were offered in Berlin on Friday before arrangements for his return to Pakistan began.
Pakistani Embassy Appreciates German Authorities
The Pakistani Embassy stated that it remained in constant contact with the German Federal Foreign Office, Brandenburg Police and other relevant institutions throughout the operation.
According to the embassy, the coordinated efforts of these agencies helped ensure the successful recovery, identification and transfer process. Furthermore, the mission expressed gratitude to the German authorities for their professionalism, compassion and close cooperation during the entire operation.
The embassy also extended heartfelt condolences to Asid Mirza’s family and prayed that Allah Almighty grants the deceased a high place in His mercy.

Following the tragic incident, the Pakistani Embassy urged Pakistani citizens living in Germany to remain extremely cautious while visiting lakes, rivers and other natural water bodies.
Officials advised people to follow local safety instructions and warning signs at all times. Moreover, they encouraged the public to avoid entering water whenever conditions appear unsafe.
The embassy stressed that observing local safety guidelines can help prevent similar incidents and improve public safety during recreational activities.
