Authorities have introduced a new security plan around Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi amid heightened security concerns. The arrangements took effect on Tuesday and will remain in place until further orders. Meanwhile, PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, continue serving their sentences at the jail.
Under the new plan, police will establish checkpoints at eight key locations around the prison. These locations include Dahgal, Gate No. 1, Gate No. 5, Pharmaceutical Factory, Gorakhpur, a private housing society in Phase 8, Chakri and Thallian.
435 Police Personnel Assigned Security Duties
Authorities will deploy a total of 435 police personnel around Adiala Jail.
The deployment includes personnel from the Riot Control Unit, District Police, Elite Force and Dolphin Squad. Moreover, officers will monitor movement around the prison and maintain security at key access points.
Authorities will also closely monitor unnecessary movement in the surrounding areas.
Shops and Businesses Face Restrictions
As part of the security measures, authorities will close petrol stations, hotels and shops along the route between Dahgal and Gorakhpur.
The restrictions aim to control movement and strengthen security around the prison. Furthermore, police will maintain checkpoints at strategic locations to monitor people and vehicles approaching the jail.
Senior Police Officers to Oversee Security
SP Saddar and DSP Saddar will supervise the new security arrangements around Adiala Jail. Meanwhile, authorities have not specified how long the restrictions will continue. The new measures will remain effective until further orders, according to the sources.
