Pakistan have slipped further in the ICC Test rankings after suffering a heavy defeat against England. However, they remain eighth in the latest standings.
The setback came after England secured a convincing innings-and-103-run victory in the opening Test at Headingley on Friday.
Pakistan currently have 1,427 points, while Sri Lanka remain seventh with 1,222 points. Meanwhile, Bangladesh have made a major jump after their historic series in Australia.
Bangladesh Make Historic Ranking Surge
Bangladesh climbed three places to reach sixth in the Test rankings. Their rise followed a memorable away series against Australia.
The two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw. Bangladesh also secured their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil.
They defeated Australia by nine wickets in the opening Test at Marrara Stadium. The historic result significantly improved their position in the rankings.
As a result, both Pakistan and Sri Lanka moved down the rankings. Bangladesh now sit sixth, ahead of the two teams.
Australia continue to occupy the top position. South Africa remain second, while New Zealand are third.
India hold fourth place, followed by England in fifth.
Pakistan Suffer Heavy Defeat Against England
Pakistan struggled throughout the opening Test against England. After England built a significant advantage, Pakistan faced a difficult task in their second innings.
The visitors trailed by 238 runs after their first innings. They then collapsed for just 135 runs in the second innings.
England consequently completed a dominant innings-and-103-run victory. The result gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Pakistan will now need a strong response in the remaining Tests. Another defeat could further increase pressure on the team and affect their position in the standings.
Pakistan Drop to Bottom of WTC Table
Pakistan’s problems extend beyond the Test team rankings. Their defeat also pushed them back to the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings. Pakistan have won only two of their seven WTC matches. They have suffered five defeats during the campaign.
Their current points percentage stands at 19.05. The poor record leaves Pakistan with little room for further setbacks. Australia currently lead the WTC standings after winning eight of their 10 Tests. They have lost two matches and collected 96 points.
Their points percentage stands at 80.00. Defending champions South Africa occupy second place with three victories from four matches. South Africa have collected 36 points and hold a points percentage of 75.00.
Pakistan therefore face a crucial period in their Test campaign. The team will need improved performances to climb the rankings and revive its WTC position.
The remaining matches against England could prove particularly important. Pakistan must now focus on consistency and results to prevent further damage to their standing in international Test cricket.
