A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight travelling from Islamabad to Medina made an emergency landing at Karachi after developing a technical fault. The incident occurred during the flight as the aircraft approached United Arab Emirates (UAE) airspace.
Flight PK-713, a Boeing 777 carrying more than 300 passengers, had remained airborne for over three hours when the issue emerged. The captain responded quickly and diverted the aircraft towards Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.
The pilot successfully stabilised the aircraft before landing it safely at the airport. As a result, all passengers reached the ground without reported injuries.
PIA Flight Diverted to Karachi
According to initial information, the aircraft developed the technical issue while travelling towards Medina.
The captain then decided to return to Karachi rather than continue the flight.
The aircraft landed safely at Jinnah International Airport after the diversion.
Airport authorities subsequently evacuated all passengers from the plane. They moved the travellers to the transit lounge at Karachi Airport.
The emergency procedures reportedly proceeded smoothly after the aircraft landed.
There were no immediate reports of injuries among passengers or crew members.
PIA Yet to Explain Technical Fault
PIA authorities have not yet issued an official statement explaining the nature of the technical problem.
They have also not confirmed the current condition of the Boeing 777 involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, airport officials and eyewitnesses said the emergency response remained orderly.
The incident reportedly caused no panic among passengers during the aircraft’s diversion and landing.
However, the technical fault could raise fresh questions about the condition of PIA’s ageing aircraft fleet.
The national carrier has faced longstanding concerns regarding its fleet and operational challenges. Nevertheless, PIA has maintained a strong safety record in recent years.
Investigation Expected Into Incident
Aviation authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine what caused the technical fault. The investigation could also examine the aircraft’s technical condition and maintenance history.
Furthermore, authorities may assess the circumstances surrounding the decision to divert the flight to Karachi.
The safe landing prevented the technical issue from developing into a more serious aviation emergency.
For now, passengers have been safely evacuated, while further details about the aircraft and their onward travel remain awaited from PIA.
