Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has shared disturbing details about the killing of Wasim Abbas, an orphan boy who died in Multan. According to her account, Wasim fled his workplace after allegedly facing mistreatment on October 19. However, the situation turned fatal when two men reportedly chased him in a car and ran him over.
Bukhari described the incident as a tragedy that had deeply shaken people. She also stressed that violence against women and children would not be tolerated in Punjab, calling them a red line for Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Meanwhile, the chief minister is personally monitoring the case, according to the minister.
Wasim Abbas’s Family Background
According to Azma Bukhari, Wasim Abbas belonged to Muzaffargarh. His father died when he was very young, while his mother later married a man named Jafar. Wasim had three siblings, and all the children had been placed in an orphanage.
However, their family circumstances later changed. Wasim’s sister left the orphanage six months ago and returned to live with their mother. Meanwhile, one of his brothers remains at the institution.
The minister shared these details while describing the circumstances surrounding Wasim’s life before his death.
How Workplace Mistreatment Allegedly Led to the Killing
Bukhari said Wasim had been handed over to a contractor named Tauqeer approximately one week before the incident. He was reportedly sent to learn electrical work under the contractor.
However, on October 19, Wasim allegedly fled the workplace after being mistreated. According to the minister, Tauqeer and his accomplice, Amjad, pursued him in a car.
The two men reportedly chased Wasim for around one kilometre before spotting him. They allegedly ran him over with their vehicle, resulting in his death.
The allegations have placed the conduct of the two suspects at the centre of the investigation. However, the claims remain allegations, and the case must proceed through the legal process.
Police Search for Suspect as Authorities Prepare Prosecution
Police are conducting raids at locations associated with Amjad in Faisalabad, according to Azma Bukhari. Authorities are pursuing the case as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding Wasim’s killing.
The provincial information minister also said the prosecution was coordinating with police to prepare a strong case against the accused. This effort aims to support legal proceedings against those allegedly responsible for the boy’s death.
Bukhari reiterated that the Punjab government would not tolerate crimes against women and children. With the chief minister personally monitoring the case, authorities are working to advance the investigation and strengthen the prosecution.
