New Zealand has outlined the requirements for its Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). The visa allows eligible foreign workers to work for approved employers.
Applicants must have a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer. The job must provide at least 30 hours of work each week.
The visa can allow workers to stay in New Zealand for up to five years. The exact duration depends on the job, skill level and salary.
Visa holders can also study for up to three months within any 12-month period. They may also complete job-related training.
Key Eligibility Requirements
Applicants need a confirmed job offer from an accredited employer. New Zealand employers and recruitment agents cannot charge workers unlawful recruitment fees.
Applicants generally need at least two years of relevant work experience. Alternatively, they can qualify with a Level 4 or higher qualification under the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
A CV alone does not prove work experience. Applicants may need employment certificates, payslips, tax records or other supporting documents.
Workers applying for skill level 4 or 5 jobs may also need to prove their English skills.
Medical checks and police clearance certificates may also form part of the application.
How to Apply for the AEWV
After receiving a job offer, the accredited employer sends the worker a unique application link or job token.
Applicants must prepare scanned copies of their documents. They should also provide English translations where required.
The application can then be completed online. Applicants must upload their documents and pay the visa fee, which starts at NZ$1,540.
Processing Time and Visa Approval
New Zealand immigration authorities say they process 80% of AEWV applications within six weeks.
However, processing times can vary depending on individual circumstances and application requirements.
Successful applicants receive an electronic visa. The AEWV can also provide a possible pathway toward permanent residence, depending on the worker’s job and eligibility.
