US Vice President JD Vance revealed that Donald Trump is ready to part ways with with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over clash of interests.
Speaking on the All-In podcast, Vance said Washington should pursue American interests while maintaining its important relationship with Israel.
He said Israel remains an important US partner in military technology and intelligence sharing, although the two countries do not always share the same policies.
Vance added that Trump had shown a willingness to “part ways” with Netanyahu when he believes American interests require a different approach.
US foreign policy to focus on national interests
According to Vance, Trump can regard Netanyahu as an important partner while disagreeing with him on specific issues.
He said Netanyahu could be correct from Israel’s perspective, while Washington might still need to pursue another direction for American interests.
Vance argued that the US-Israel relationship should remain grounded in American interests rather than allowing Israel to determine Washington’s Middle East policy.
“We’re going to work with Israel when we work with them, we’re going to disagree with them when we disagree,” Vance said.
He compared the approach with US relations with NATO allies, saying Washington maintains important partnerships without making its broader foreign policy subordinate to them.
Vance said the same principle should apply to the Middle East and stressed the need for an independent US foreign policy.
His remarks come amid continued debate within Washington over US policy toward Israel and the wider Middle East.
Vance has previously acknowledged that US and Israeli interests can sometimes diverge, while describing Israel as an important American partner.
