The United States has signalled progress in diplomatic talks with Iran, even as reports of fresh American strikes on Qeshm Island raise concerns about renewed conflict.
President Donald Trump said an agreement with Tehran could be reached soon. He also claimed Iran wanted a settlement as quickly as possible.
However, reports of explosions on Qeshm Island emerged hours after his remarks, highlighting the fragile situation between the two countries.
Vance Reports Progress in Negotiations
US Vice President JD Vance said Washington had made progress in discussions with Iranian representatives.
He expressed optimism about reaching a negotiated settlement but indicated that further work remained.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also confirmed that indirect negotiations were continuing through regional mediators.
He said Qatar and Pakistan were playing active roles in facilitating the diplomatic process.
Iran Sets Conditions for Strait of Hormuz
Tehran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz under specific conditions. The strategic waterway remains crucial for international oil shipments.
Iranian officials have linked the proposal to demands involving the US naval blockade, economic sanctions and an end to military operations.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran’s proposed plan could be implemented within two days if Washington accepted its conditions.
However, no final agreement has been announced.
Qeshm Island Strikes Raise Tensions
Iranian state media reported several explosions on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
US officials described the reported military action as limited defensive strikes targeting Iranian forces that allegedly threatened American assets.
The developments have raised questions about whether diplomatic progress can continue alongside military confrontation.
With Qatar and Pakistan facilitating contacts, negotiations remain underway. However, differences over security arrangements, sanctions and the Strait of Hormuz continue to complicate efforts to reach a settlement.
