Several US military aircraft sustained damage after Iranian strikes targeted the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan.
The attacks took place overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday, according to US media reports citing sources familiar with the incident.
About eight F-15 fighter jets reportedly suffered minor damage during the strikes. However, the aircraft were later returned to service.
An A-10 Thunderbolt, commonly known as the Warthog, also came under attack during the barrage. The aircraft reportedly lost a wing after being struck.
No US troops were reported killed in the attacks, according to the reports.
Iranian Strikes Target US Military Base
The latest strikes came amid a widening confrontation between Washington and Tehran across the region.
Earlier on Tuesday, the United States attacked five Iranian tankers. Washington said the operation followed an Iranian attack targeting a US Navy vessel.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later claimed it had launched strikes against eight tankers, two warships and the US military base in Jordan.
The exchange marks another escalation as attacks involving US and Iranian forces spread beyond their immediate areas of confrontation.
US Forces Deploy Patriot Missiles
US forces stationed at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base responded to the incoming attacks using Patriot missile systems.
More than 30 Patriot missiles were fired to intercept the incoming threats, according to US media reports.
The scale of the defensive response has also highlighted concerns about the availability of interceptor missiles.
US officials have reportedly grown increasingly concerned about dwindling stocks of Patriot interceptors and other precision-guided weapons.
Those concerns are emerging as the conflict with Iran continues to widen and military operations intensify across the region.
