US-based drone maker Powerus signed a memorandum of understanding with the Pakistan Army to supply drones. Co-founder of Powerus, Brett Velicovich, revealed the agreement. He, nonetheless, did not disclose the details of the deal and the amount involved in it.
He cited security concerns and confidentiality for withholding further information about the deal.
Powerus explores local production
The agreement covers unmanned aerial systems, although the company has not disclosed the specific equipment involved. Powerus develops aerial and maritime drones for military and industrial applications. Velicovich said the company is exploring options to potentially manufacture its technology in Pakistan.
He added that Powerus aims to establish a joint technology partnership combining US technology with Pakistani capabilities. Powerus CEO Andrew Fox said Pakistan’s private defence sector remains relatively young but offers opportunities for further development.
He added that the sector could create opportunities for US companies seeking to expand their presence in Pakistan.
Army confirms delegation meeting
The Pakistan military said a Powerus delegation led by Velicovich met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The meeting covered defence procurement, production and long-term capacity building, according to the military. However, its statement did not mention the MoU or the initial order.
Meanwhile, Powerus is expected to merge with publicly traded Aureus Greenway Holdings, with the transaction expected to conclude in early October.
Regulatory filings indicate an investment fund linked to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump could hold a 9.9% beneficial stake in the combined company.
Fox said Powerus contracts are awarded on merit and denied any involvement by the Trump brothers in company operations. A spokesperson for Trump Jr. also said he had no role in negotiating, procuring or executing the Pakistan agreement.
