Police have arrested two serving officers in Swat over allegations of sexually assaulting a woman visiting the tourist district. The woman had travelled from Peshawar with her husband when the alleged incident occurred.
According to police reports, the woman approached Rahimabad Police Station on Wednesday night. She accused two unidentified men of sexually assaulting her after they intercepted the couple during their visit.
The incident has raised serious concerns about tourist safety and alleged misconduct within law enforcement agencies.
Police Identify Suspects Through CCTV Footage
According to the initial investigation, the suspects stopped the couple while they were returning from Bahrain. They allegedly approached the woman and her husband again before taking them to a hotel in the Fizagat area.
The woman alleged that both officers sexually assaulted her inside a hotel room. Furthermore, the suspects reportedly threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
District Police Officer Muhammad Umar Khan immediately took notice of the complaint. Consequently, Rahimabad Station House Officer Zahidullah Khan formed a team to investigate the allegations.
The investigation team examined CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Police subsequently traced both individuals and arrested them.
Cases Registered Against Two Police Officers
Authorities identified the arrested suspects as Waheed Mahmood and Muhammad Ghazanfar. Mahmood belongs to Batkhela, while Ghazanfar comes from Chamkani, Peshawar.
Police registered cases against both officers at Rahimabad Police Station. Initial investigations also indicated that the suspects allegedly exploited their positions during the incident.
Moreover, reports suggest that authorities are reviewing complaints about the officers’ previous conduct. Both suspects remain subject to legal proceedings as investigators continue examining the case.
