LAHORE: Lahore police have arrested two main suspects in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 20-year-old Azeri woman in the Defence area.
Police officials said the suspects, identified as Tanveer and Mohsin, were arrested during separate raids in the Ravi Road and Sundar areas on Sunday night.
Defence-C police had registered a case on Saturday against three unidentified men following a complaint filed by the foreign national.
The woman, identified as Diana, had travelled to Pakistan for business purposes and was staying at a residence near Raiwind Road. According to her complaint, two women invited her to dinner and accompanied her to a café, where they met three men.
She told police that the men later offered to drive her and two other women. They allegedly took her to an unidentified apartment, where alcohol was consumed. Diana claimed that she was given an intoxicating substance and subsequently lost consciousness.
According to her statement, the three men allegedly sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. She further alleged that the suspects kept her locked inside the apartment until around 2pm before returning and leaving her near Ghazi Interchange.
The suspects allegedly took her mobile phone and other belongings before fleeing, according to the complaint.
Police registered a case and launched an investigation after receiving her application. Officials said raids are underway to arrest the third suspect, identified as Umar.
Police have also detained four other individuals, including the two women who allegedly invited Diana to dinner, as part of the ongoing investigation.
