Metrobus commuters travelling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi should prepare for temporary service disruptions as Pakistan prepares to host Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series.
The matches will take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 9 to 13. Authorities have introduced transport restrictions to strengthen security arrangements for visiting players and officials.
Metrobus Services to Face Temporary Suspensions
According to Metrobus sources, the district administration has ordered temporary suspensions whenever officials transport the teams between locations. The restrictions will affect the route between Saddar Station and Pak Secretariat. However, services will not remain suspended continuously throughout the entire restriction period.
Three stations will also remain closed during matches. These include Khatm-e-Nabuwwat, IJP Road and Sixth Road stations.
The wider restriction period runs from October 4 to November 13. Nevertheless, authorities have not announced exact suspension timings or alternative transport arrangements.
Commuters should check official updates before travelling, particularly on match days. Planning journeys in advance may help passengers avoid unexpected delays.
Sri Lankan Players Arrive in Pakistan
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s first contingent has arrived in Islamabad ahead of the upcoming T20I series. The 13-member group includes eight players and five management personnel. Among those who have arrived are Kusal Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana and Eshan Malinga.
Additional players and officials are expected to reach Pakistan in separate groups before the opening match.
The team’s arrival marks the final preparations for the international series, which will bring players, officials and cricket fans to Rawalpindi.
More International Cricket Ahead
Rawalpindi will also host matches in the Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England ODI tri-series, beginning October 18. Furthermore, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are scheduled to play their first Test at the same venue from November 9 to 13.
With several international fixtures planned, commuters may face further temporary restrictions during team movements and match days.
For now, authorities have yet to release detailed suspension schedules or confirm alternative transport options. Passengers should monitor official announcements for the latest service information.
