New Partnership Expands Logistics and Infrastructure Collaboration
Türkiye and Saudi Arabia have taken a major step toward strengthening bilateral transportation and logistics ties by signing two memorandums of understanding aimed at expanding cooperation in logistics services and railway development.
The agreements were signed by Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu and Saudi Transport Minister Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser. According to Turkish officials, the new framework will deepen technical cooperation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and support the development of modern transport infrastructure across both countries.
Uraloglu described the agreements as the beginning of a new phase in bilateral relations, emphasizing that cooperation will extend across multiple sectors, including logistics centres, advanced transport technologies, and operational management systems.
Furthermore, both countries intend to strengthen collaboration in railway infrastructure, workforce development, technical training, and human resource capacity building. Officials believe the partnership will enhance regional connectivity while supporting economic growth and trade expansion throughout the wider region.
Regional Trade Routes and Railway Projects Gain Momentum
Meanwhile, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia are exploring new transport corridors designed to improve commercial links across the Middle East. Uraloglu noted that prior to 2012, annual bilateral transport activity had reached significant levels, and both countries now aim to surpass previous benchmarks despite recent regional challenges.
The minister revealed that test transport operations connecting Türkiye, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia have demonstrated the viability of alternative trade routes. These developments could strengthen regional supply chains and create more efficient transportation networks.
The logistics cooperation agreement focuses on the construction and operation of logistics centres, the exchange of expertise, and the implementation of joint projects. At the same time, the railway agreement seeks to promote cooperation across all aspects of rail transportation.
Earlier this month, Uraloglu also announced plans to modernise the historic Hejaz Railway and eventually extend the network toward Oman. The proposed initiative aims to create an alternative trade corridor linked to Gulf markets while reviving a route that once served as a major transportation artery across the region.
Officials view the latest agreements as an important milestone in enhancing regional integration, trade, and long-term economic cooperation between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
