Washington Expresses Confidence in Ongoing Negotiations
US President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are progressing positively and suggested that a breakthrough could emerge as early as the coming weekend.
Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed confidence in the diplomatic process, stating that discussions were moving in a constructive direction. He indicated that a potential agreement remains possible if current efforts continue to advance.
However, Trump’s upbeat assessment contrasted with comments from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who acknowledged that communication channels between Tehran and Washington remain open but stressed that negotiators have yet to achieve any concrete progress toward ending the broader regional conflict.
Meanwhile, diplomatic engagement between the two sides continues amid ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and establish a framework for a more durable agreement.
Regional Tensions Continue Despite Ceasefire Efforts
Trump also emphasized that he wants negotiations with Iran to remain separate from discussions surrounding the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to the US president, both issues require distinct diplomatic tracks despite their connection to broader regional developments.
In addition, Trump revealed that American officials recently communicated with Hezbollah as part of efforts to reduce hostilities in Lebanon. He suggested that both Hezbollah and Israel had signaled a willingness to avoid further escalation, adding that mediators would closely monitor the situation in the coming days.
Furthermore, Trump downplayed recent military exchanges involving the United States and Iran. Overnight, US forces reported intercepting Iranian drones and conducting a strike on an Iranian ground control facility. In response, Iranian forces launched drones and missiles toward several Gulf states.
Despite those incidents, Trump described the situation as relatively contained and argued that limited exchanges should not overshadow ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Ceasefires between the United States and Iran, as well as between Israel and Hezbollah, have remained in place since April. Nevertheless, sporadic clashes and military incidents have continued across the region.
As negotiations proceed, international observers remain focused on whether diplomatic contacts can transform fragile ceasefires into longer-term arrangements that reduce tensions and promote regional stability.
