U.S. President Donald Trump said a potential agreement with Iran could be reached as early as Monday, signaling ongoing negotiations amid heightened tensions. In an interview reported by Fox News on Sunday, Trump expressed optimism about a breakthrough.
โI think there is a good chance we make a deal,โ Trump said, referencing his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, he warned that failure to reach an agreement could trigger severe consequences. โIf they donโt make a deal and fast, Iโm considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil,โ he added.
Meanwhile, Trump claimed that Iranian negotiators had already made key concessions. He stated that Tehran agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons, describing the issue as effectively settled. โTheyโre not even negotiating that point,โ he said, emphasizing that most terms had already been accepted.
In a separate interview with ABC News, Trump said the conflict could end within days rather than weeks. Nevertheless, he cautioned that without a deal, the United States would keep all options on the table, indicating the possibility of expanded military action.
Additionally, Trump revealed that Washington had attempted to support Iranian protesters through indirect channels. He said the United States sought to deliver weapons via Kurdish intermediaries to demonstrators opposing Iranโs leadership.
Protests had erupted in Iran in recent months over rising living costs, driven in part by economic pressure from international sanctions. As a result, internal unrest has added another layer of complexity to the already volatile regional situation.
Overall, diplomatic efforts continue alongside military threats, with the coming days likely to prove critical for both sides.
