US President Praises Pakistanโs Support
United States President Donald Trump has said Pakistan โreally helpedโ Washington in reaching the memorandum of understanding with Iran.
Trump made the remarks during an interview with American news outlet Axios. He was asked about global leaders he liked and spoke about several international figures.
During the interview, Trump praised Pakistanโs leadership. He mentioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Trump said Pakistanโs leadership understood Iran and helped the United States during the process. He said Pakistan knew the Iranian side and played a useful role in the deal.
Trump Mentions Pakistan-India Conflict
Trump also referred to the brief military conflict between Pakistan and India in May 2025.
He repeated his claim that he helped stop the conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries. He said the situation had become extremely dangerous and could have led to a major disaster.
Trump said Pakistan had asked him not to continue further military action because Islamabad was close to the situation. He said he respected Pakistanโs request.
The US president also claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said he saved millions of lives by helping prevent a wider conflict.
Trump has previously spoken several times about the Pakistan-India confrontation and has praised Pakistanโs civil and military leadership on multiple occasions.
Islamabad MoU Seen as Major Diplomatic Moment
The remarks came after the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran.
The agreement was signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The deal is being viewed as a major diplomatic development aimed at ending months of regional tension in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the Islamabad MoU had entered into force after all parties signed the document.
Trump signed the agreement during a reception at the Palace of Versailles in France. Iranian media also released images of President Pezeshkian signing the deal in his office.
The agreement has placed Pakistanโs mediation role in the spotlight and strengthened Islamabadโs diplomatic profile in regional peace efforts.
