US President Insists Diplomacy Remains on Track Despite Escalation
US President Donald Trump said new military exchanges between Israel and Iran will not affect ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the broader regional conflict, expressing confidence that a diplomatic breakthrough remains possible.
Speaking on Sunday, Trump dismissed concerns that recent missile attacks and airstrikes could derail peace efforts. He stressed that his administration remains focused on securing an agreement with Tehran despite rising tensions in the region.
Trump also emphasized his influence over the diplomatic process, stating that decisions regarding negotiations are being directed from Washington. His comments came after Israel carried out strikes near Beirut, marking its first attack in the area since the United States announced a proposed truce plan for Lebanon last week.
Meanwhile, Iran responded by launching a salvo of missiles toward Israeli targets. Despite the escalation, Trump maintained that negotiations remain on course and suggested that progress toward an agreement could still be achieved.
The renewed hostilities also affected global markets. Consequently, oil prices climbed more than two percent in early trading on Monday, with Brent crude rising above $95 per barrel.
Regional Tensions Continue as Leaders Exchange Messages
According to reports, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone conversation lasting nearly 30 minutes on Sunday. While official details were limited, reports indicated that Trump urged restraint and encouraged efforts to preserve momentum toward a diplomatic solution.
At the same time, Iranian officials reiterated that regional issues, including the conflict in Lebanon, remain closely linked to broader negotiations with Washington. Tehran has consistently argued that any long-term agreement must also address ongoing hostilities involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces.
Furthermore, Israeli military officials stated that defense systems intercepted missiles launched from Iran. Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir later said the military remained prepared for further action if required.
Although tensions remain high, diplomatic channels continue to operate. Trump reiterated that negotiations are advancing and expressed optimism that an agreement could help prevent a wider regional conflict.
For now, regional powers remain on alert as military developments and diplomatic efforts unfold simultaneously, with international observers closely monitoring the situation for signs of either escalation or progress toward a lasting settlement.
