US President Donald Trump has demanded financial compensation from Iran over decades of alleged military attacks and domestic repression.
Trump said Iran should compensate families of people killed in the 2000 USS Cole attack and other US combat casualties.
He also demanded payments for what he described as hundreds of thousands of protesters killed by the Iranian government over five decades.
The demand followed reports that Iranian representatives were seeking compensation for losses from the five-month regional war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28.
Trump rejected Iran’s claims and said reparations for Tehran were never discussed during negotiations. He added that US representatives would raise Washington’s demands in future talks.
Iranian Leader Reportedly in Good Health
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei remained in full physical health.
Pezeshkian made the remarks after holding a seven-hour meeting with Khamenei. He said the discussions focused on national challenges, livelihoods, employment, housing and sanctions.
He added that maintaining national unity remained Khamenei’s most important advice.
Tehran Highlights Growing Ties With Pakistan
Meanwhile, Iran described relations with Pakistan as more important than ever since the war began.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Pakistan had played a key mediation role. He confirmed invitations for Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Islamabad.
The officials will travel to Pakistan at an appropriate time, Baghaei said.
He also dismissed concerns that the Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye defence pact targets Iran.
According to Baghaei, the alliance reflects growing regional efforts to pursue security without relying on the United States.
