A well-known trader, Haji Salahuddin Khan Noorzai, was shot dead by unidentified motorcycle-borne attackers near Airport Road in Quetta on Thursday, police said.
Noorzai was reportedly targeted near his residence in the Muslimabad area. Police said he was returning home after offering prayers at a mosque when armed assailants opened fire on him.
The trader sustained serious bullet injuries in the attack. He was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his wounds.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Police Launch Investigation Into Killing
Following the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the area and cordoned off the crime scene.
Police officials collected evidence from the site and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing. Teams were also formed to identify and arrest the attackers.
The body of the deceased was shifted for medico-legal formalities.
Police said the motive behind the killing had not yet been established. Investigators are examining the incident from different angles and are working to trace those involved.
Victimโs Son Reportedly Missing for Eight Months
According to sources, Salahuddin Noorzai was a prominent member of the local business community.
Family members said the victim’s son had allegedly been abducted by unidentified persons around eight months ago and remained missing.
The development has added another troubling dimension to the case as investigators continue to examine whether the earlier disappearance has any connection with Thursdayโs killing.
The incident has caused concern among residents and members of the business community in Quetta.
The victimโs family and traders have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for their prosecution under the law.
Separate Quetta Kidnapping Investigation
In a separate case, Quetta police recently arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged abduction of Asma Amanullah in the Kachi Baig area.
Police said weapons and a vehicle allegedly used in the abduction were recovered during the operation, which was conducted under the supervision of SSP Operations Zia-ul-Haq Mandokhail.
According to police, the case was registered at Kachi Baig Police Station on August 14 under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code. The investigation is being conducted by Sub-Inspector Mehboob Ali.
