Senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye are scheduled to meet Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday. The talks aim to discuss regional coordination as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
Pakistan will be represented by Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. Saudi Arabia will send Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, while Turkiye’s intelligence chief will also participate.
The planned meeting could mark the first high-level engagement between Iran and all three countries under the Makkah defence partnership.
Regional Security Tops Meeting Agenda
The talks come amid growing security concerns involving Iran and its regional neighbours. Saudi Arabia has faced increasing attacks from Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi group.
On Sunday, Saudi authorities intercepted another wave of missiles and drones as fighting continued. Consequently, regional governments have stepped up consultations on security and defence cooperation.
Earlier this month, ministers from the three Makkah pact countries held an emergency meeting in Riyadh. They agreed to ensure the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia.
Makkah Defence Agreement Strengthens Cooperation
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in August 2026. Under the agreement, an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all three.
The pact also commits members to using necessary means to address threats to their territorial integrity, sovereignty and internationally recognised borders.
Pakistan approved the agreement last week. Meanwhile, Turkiye’s parliament has begun the ratification process, which remains underway.
Wider Conflict Raises Regional Concerns
The planned discussions come as the US-Israeli offensive against Iran fuels fears of a broader regional conflict. Furthermore, attacks involving Iran-aligned groups have increased concerns about the security of neighbouring countries.
The meeting may provide an opportunity for officials to discuss regional coordination and the evolving security situation.
However, the participating governments have not publicly confirmed all details of the planned talks. The outcome will be closely watched as diplomatic and security efforts continue across the region.
