Punjab traffic authorities have stepped up enforcement against pressure horns and unnecessary honking across the province. The crackdown aims to curb excessive noise on roads and discourage motorists from using loud horns without need.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic has ordered a province-wide ban on pressure horns. He has also directed Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to take action against violators.
Pressure Horn Users Face Action Across Punjab
Under the new enforcement drive, traffic officials will take action against motorists who use pressure horns. Authorities have been instructed to enforce the ban without discrimination across the province.
Meanwhile, officials will also target unnecessary honking near sensitive locations. These areas include hospitals, educational institutions, emergency centres, and restricted zones.
Motorists who repeatedly or continuously use their horns can also face legal action. Therefore, traffic authorities have urged drivers to avoid unnecessary noise while travelling through populated areas.
Commercial Vehicles Also Under Pressure
Commercial vehicle owners have received specific instructions under the crackdown. Authorities have directed them to remove pressure horns from their vehicles immediately.
Those who fail to comply may face legal action under the applicable traffic regulations. As a result, commercial vehicle operators have been urged to ensure their vehicles meet the latest enforcement requirements.
Over 383,000 Challans Issued This Year
Official figures show the scale of the traffic authorities’ enforcement efforts. More than 383,000 people have been fined across Punjab this year for pressure horn use and continuous honking.
Lahore has also recorded a significant number of violations. Lahore Traffic Police alone has issued challans to around 48,000 people for improper horn use.
The figures highlight the widespread use of pressure horns and excessive honking on Punjab’s roads. Consequently, authorities have intensified enforcement to address the issue.
Authorities Link Excessive Noise to Health Concerns
Traffic authorities have warned that pressure horns and continuous honking can affect human hearing and neurological health. They have also linked the crackdown with efforts to reduce noise pollution.
According to traffic officials, enforcement measures have already contributed to lower noise pollution. However, continued cooperation from motorists remains important for maintaining quieter roads.
The DIG Traffic has therefore instructed officials to ensure effective implementation of the crackdown. At the same time, officers have been told to take action against violators without discrimination.
