Three Pakistanis reportedly died among six people killed in separate ship attacks on Tuesday. The incidents occurred in the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman, raising tensions across a major energy corridor.
Yemen’s coastguard said Houthi strikes hit a cargo vessel named Tihamah. The Tanzania-flagged ship caught fire and suffered extensive damage during the attack.
Pakistani Nationals Killed During Ship Attack
The initial strike killed four sailors, including three Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national. Rescue personnel later faced another attack while evacuating the damaged vessel.
The second strike hit the rescue operation and caused additional casualties. Authorities said 10 people suffered injuries during the attacks.
Meanwhile, another incident reportedly involved a Saudi ship carrying military equipment. The vessel came under attack in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on Tuesday night.
Authorities Yet to Confirm Second Attack
Houthi-linked media reported that the group targeted the Saudi vessel. However, Saudi authorities have not immediately confirmed the reported attack.
The Houthis also have not officially commented on the alleged strike. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office has not issued an official statement about the reported Pakistani casualties.
The attacks mark the latest violence involving ships near the Red Sea entrance. The incidents follow the Houthis’ announcement of a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia last month.
The latest attacks have further increased concerns about maritime security in the region. They could also create additional risks for shipping through the strategically important waterway.
