A joint operation carried out by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) resulted in the deaths of three alleged extortionists and the arrest of another injured suspect in Karachi.
The operation took place in Malir 14, where security personnel acted on credible intelligence regarding the presence of suspected extortionists.
According to officials, the operation turned into an armed encounter after the suspects allegedly opened fire on the law enforcement team.
Operation Launched After Intelligence Report
The Rangers and SIU launched the raid after receiving intelligence about the presence of alleged extortionists in the Malir 14 area.
As security personnel reached the location, the suspects reportedly responded with gunfire.
Consequently, law enforcement officers returned fire, leading to an exchange that continued until additional security personnel secured the surrounding area.
Three Suspects Killed, One Injured Arrested
During the encounter, three alleged extortionists were killed at the scene. Meanwhile, another suspect sustained injuries and was taken into custody.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased or the arrested suspect. Authorities said the identification process is currently underway.
Weapons and Motorcycle Recovered
Following the operation, security personnel recovered several items from the scene. According to officials, the recovered material included weapons, mobile phones, and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects.
Investigators are now examining the recovered evidence as part of the ongoing inquiry into the alleged criminal network.
Investigation Continues
Authorities have launched further investigations to determine the activities and possible connections of the suspects.
Officials are also working to identify the injured suspect and the three deceased individuals. The investigation aims to uncover any wider network linked to the alleged extortion activities.
Separate Police Encounters Across Karachi
In separate police operations conducted in different parts of Karachi, seven suspects were arrested after sustaining injuries during encounters with law enforcement personnel.
Meanwhile, emergency teams responded to a fire that broke out in a shop located inside a mobile market in Block 13, Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control before it spread to nearby shops. Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire.
Law enforcement agencies continue operations across Karachi as investigations into the separate incidents remain underway.
