Pakistan Customs has stopped an alleged drug-smuggling attempt at Islamabad International Airport after recovering 35kg of suspected hashish.
The seizure followed an intelligence-based operation targeting a passenger arriving on flight TG-349. During a search of the passenger’s luggage, customs officials recovered the suspected hashish and took it into custody.
Officials estimated the value of the seized drugs at more than Rs660 million.
Customs Recovers 35kg of Suspected Hashish
Pakistan Customs launched the operation after receiving what officials described as reliable intelligence. The information led customs personnel to search a passenger’s luggage at Islamabad International Airport.
During the inspection, officials discovered 35kg of suspected hashish inside the luggage. The prohibited substance was subsequently seized and placed in customs custody.
Officials estimated that the seized drugs were worth more than Rs660 million.
FIR Registered Against Passenger
Pakistan Customs has registered an FIR against the passenger under the relevant legal provisions. Meanwhile, further investigations are under way to establish the source of the suspected drugs.
Investigators are also working to determine their intended destination.
The investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the attempted movement of the prohibited substance.
Customs Vows Continued Action Against Smuggling
The latest seizure comes as Pakistan Customs continues operations against cross-border smuggling and illegal drug trafficking. Customs officials said enforcement operations against such activities would continue.
