Nationwide Protest Planned for October 17
Tanzemat-e-Ahlesunnat has announced a nationwide protest and a full-scale strike on Friday, October 17. The decision comes in response to the police crackdown on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) in Muridke. The organization called the incident โthe darkest day in Pakistanโs history,โ terming it โtantamount to genocide of the Sunnis.โ
Demands for Judicial Inquiry and Negotiations
In a joint statement, the group demanded that the government immediately form a judicial commission to investigate the Muridke incident. It also urged the authorities to initiate meaningful negotiations with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan to resolve the crisis peacefully.
Calls for Release and Medical Aid
The statement demanded an end to raids on Sunni mosques, madrasas, khanqahs, and homes. It also called for the immediate release of arrested TLP leaders and workers. Additionally, it requested that the bodies of those killed be handed over to their families and that the injured receive proper medical care.
Resolutions to be Passed During Friday Prayers
According to the announcement, resolutions condemning the Muridke incident will be passed in mosques across Pakistan during Friday prayers on October 17. The group urged religious leaders nationwide to participate actively in the protest campaign.
Condemnation of Taliban-India Defense Deal
The statement also criticized the Taliban interim governmentโs defense agreement with India, describing it as a betrayal of Islam and Muslims. It further condemned ongoing cross-border infiltration from Afghanistan, calling it a violation of Pakistanโs sovereignty.
Meeting of Religious and Political Leaders
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pir of Manki Sharif, Pirzada Muhammad Amin Qadri. Senior religious and political figures, including Dr. Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, and Syed Hamid Saeed Kazmi, attended the session. Participants paid tribute to those who โsacrificed their lives defending the homeland.โ
Committee Formed for Dialogue and Reconciliation
Tanzemat-e-Ahlesunnat announced the formation of a committee to facilitate dialogue between the government and TLP. The committee aims to promote reconciliation and find a peaceful resolution. Members include Dr. Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair, Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Pir Abdul Khaliq Al-Qadri, and Engineer Sarwat Ijaz Qadri. Pirzada Muhammad Amin Qadri of Manki Sharif will serve as the coordinator.
